The Cowtown Marathon: Fort Worth, Texas, February 26, 2023 – Marathon #9
Yeehaw! This cowgirl is in the great state of Texas! First things first: I had a little hiccup when trying to pick up my rental car at the airport. Turns out, they had my reservation in Dallas instead of Fort Worth. But thank goodness for my amazing travel agent, who quickly cleared things up. And to make up for their mistake, they upgraded me to a cherry red Mustang—no extra charge! Let me tell you, that car was a dream. The moment I hit the highway, I realized why they’d given me something with a little extra horsepower—Texans don’t mess around on the roads. 80 mph is just the minimum speed, it seems, even when merging!
Once I made it to Fort Worth, I checked into an absolutely beautiful Hilton hotel downtown. This town is amazing. Sometimes, I wish I had a companion to share these experiences with, but it’s moments like this that make me appreciate traveling solo—seeing the sights, feeling the energy of a new place.
This was a two-race weekend for me. I ran the 10K on Saturday and the marathon on Sunday. I have to say, the swag at this race was incredible. The medals were awesome, and I was blown away by how well everything was organized. This was my 9th state, and so far, it’s definitely one of my favorite races. The volunteers and race directors were top-notch, and the expo was fantastic. And the after-party? Just as amazing.
On Saturday afternoon, I got to take in a truly unique experience—a cattle drive down Main Street. I’ve seen pictures of it before, but to actually witness it in person was something special. Of course, I had to fuel up for Sunday’s marathon, so I indulged in a nice steak dinner to get properly prepared.
Sunday morning started a little cool, but once you start running, you warm up pretty quickly. The marathon itself was a fantastic course, and the atmosphere in Fort Worth was just electric.
Thank you, Fort Worth, for an unforgettable experience. My next marathon is in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina—another destination I’ve heard a lot about but never been to. Let’s go! I’m on a roll—9 states down and 41 left to go. The journey continues!
