DOWN IN THE BAYOU

Louisiana Marathon: Baton Rouge, Louisiana, January 13 & 14, 2024 – Marathon #42

What an exciting race weekend! I traveled down to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where I ran a 5K on Saturday and my 43rd marathon on Sunday.

I arrived in Louisiana on Thursday evening, giving me plenty of time to explore the local cuisine on Friday and Saturday. I finally had the chance to try gumbo and jambalaya for the first time, and I was not disappointed—they were both delicious! I also dined at the Acme Oyster House, which definitely lived up to the hype. And I can’t forget to mention how incredibly kind the people in the South are. They made my visit even more enjoyable.

On race weekend, I had the opportunity to meet up with a friend I met at the Nashville Marathon last year. She ran both the 5K and the half marathon. I also caught up with Greg and Stephanie from the KC Smart Running group during the marathon on Sunday. It was great seeing familiar faces along the course.

The weather was absolutely perfect for running, and the course was equally amazing. It’s hard to believe that I’ve now completed 43 marathons in 43 different states! My next official state on the list is Georgia, where I’ll run the Atlanta Marathon on the weekend of February 24-25, 2024. In the meantime, I’ll be running a few local races to keep my legs fresh and ready for the next challenge.
